Decent job just get burnt out easily if you're prepared for what your day to day life at wm will be, some weeks are easier than others but often times it's more aggrivating than it's worth. Pros Decent amount of OT. Cons Done weeks just never end.
Was this review helpful? Yes No. Upper management doesn't trust drivers to do their jobs correctly. WM is a good company to work for if you don't mind putting in long hours. When I worked on the residential side of things, I would frequently put in hours a day and while the money is good, you will get burnt out very quickly mainly due to how much you are micromanaged and the site being constantly short-staffed. You can never plan anything after a work day because you don't know if you will be finishing at in the afternoon or in the evening.
My biggest issue with this company is the safety aspect. I don't think many commercial drivers go out of their way to drive unsafely, but WM sure doesn't put any trust in their drivers. We have driver facing cameras in the trucks that will be set off if you hit a bump just a little too hard or brake just a tad too late and if there is ANYTHING that management sees in that 12 second video from the incident that they don't like you will be written up for it.
To top it off the cameras are starting to talk to you now, so if you're following too close or are not maintaining your lane perfectly the camera will go off and more often than not you will get written up.
All of this adds to the stress of driving a trash truck, which in of itself is very stressful due to the people on the road around you not giving a care in the world about their safety or yours. Benefits are excellent compared to most other companies I've worked for, so they do have that going for them. Analyze the market and your qualifications to negotiate your salary with confidence.
